MARKET LOGISTICS MANAGER

Job purpose

 

The Manager, Market Operations is a key leadership position in an OTC (multi-branch) market. This role will be responsible for the direct oversight and management of the dispatchers and fleet and will play a key role in driving branch operational and safety improvements across the market. This strategic position will also own and track improvements to key market metrics that both reduce Beacon’s operating costs while improving our customer service capabilities.

 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Directly manages the dispatchers and fleet operations of all branches within an OTC market to optimize delivery zones, minimize miles driven per delivery, and improve market capacity and customer service
  • Reports/measures weekly against a predetermined set of metrics.  i.e. delivery accuracy, miles per truck, truck down time, on time delivery percentage, customer issues
  • Ensure 100% compliance to DOT and OSHA regulations across entire market
  • Identifies root cause and implements corrective actions to ensure same quality of service levels at all branches to create transparency to customers as it relates to shipping branch location.
  • Partners with Branch Managers to implement warehouse operational improvements such as warehouse layout and flow changes, 5S, process and staffing optimizations
  • Partners with Supply Chain and Branch Managers to modify inventory storage strategies to drive ‘closest Branch with inventory and capacity makes the delivery’ concept
  • Monitors existing and new business processes for improvement opportunities in Safety, Distribution Process Capacity/Lead Time, Inventory, and Cost through lean problem solving methodology.
  • Tracks, measures, and reports progress on improvement opportunities.
  • Serves as a change facilitator, develops and collaborates with champions in the division, region and branches, and influences organizational leadership in the transformation to and/or in support of a continuous improvement/learning culture.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through world class operations benchmarking.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field of service
  • Minimum of 10 years of demonstrated progressive experience in both warehousing and logistics
  • Job experience working in or leading a warehouse operation
  • Experience with leading local fleet delivery operations
  • Experience leading continuous improvement initiatives
  • Proficient with Personal Computer applications (Excel, Word, Power Point, Visio, AS400 Based Warehouse Management Systems, TMS, Fleet Management and Routing Tools.)
  • Superior and demonstrated leadership, team building, communication, presentation, interpersonal, and coaching skills and the ability to ensure accountability using Lean Management Principles.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to develop comprehensive company programs and processes
  • Proven experience managing cost savings and yield improvement projects
  • Excellent leadership skills and the ability to prioritize and drive multiple projects and  teams
  • Excellent communications skills, both oral and written
  • Strong ability to work in changing environment, see through complexity.
  • Strong influencing and coaching skills.  Proven experience in developing and coaching a team.
  • Ability to be effective in a highly matrixed environment, to effectively communicate with and influence all levels of the organization and drive change.
  • Demonstrated successful experience working in a demanding, high performance work environment and team oriented culture.
  • Proven ability to think and act strategically, but also willing to “roll up sleeves.”
  • Willing to travel weekly throughout the market to maintain on-site presence at local branches
