User Experience / UX Designer

Job purpose
Beacon is seeking a UX Designer to drive the creative direction of our industry-leading eCommerce platforms, help develop innovative customer-centric shopping experiences, and identify opportunities to serve customers at each step of the contractor lifecycle.
We are focused on developing digital solutions that enable B2B customers to find, research, and buy building products from a vast selection, across multiple devices, and many regions. Our customers include small roofing companies, large home improvement companies and everything in between. Our B2B customers have unique needs so we must think carefully and creatively to provide the right customer experience.
To succeed in this role, you must be a passionate and pragmatic designer with shopping experience, who can think about customer experience across touchpoints, platforms and devices. You are always looking for ways to streamline processes, invent new solutions to persistent problems, and use data-informed designed reasoning. You must earn trust with technical credibility and work through implantation details with the development team to deliver high-quality products. You will also work with a small, passionate team to define and design easier, more innovative ways for customers to shop independently for building products.

The ideal candidate is someone with a passion for customers, strong verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to focus on large initiatives at the same time as crucial design details.

Duties and responsibilities
• Understand the end-to-end Beacon customer journey, and identify opportunities for improvement in the digital customer experience
• Analyze user experience problems and develop solutions that meet measurable business goals and requirements
• Create user-centered designs by considering market analysis, customer feedback, technical constraints/opportunities and usability findings
• Work closely with eCommerce and Developer team members to develop user scenarios, storyboards, and high-level requirements
• Design the UI architecture, interface, and interaction flows for new features and functionality
• Create process flows, wireframes, and visual design mockups as needed to conceptualize and communicate detailed interaction behaviors
• Develop and maintain detailed user-interface specifications
• Drive exploration of new customer experiences to help customers maximize the value of Beacon
• Partner with Sales, Marketing and Developers to understand customer and business need and drive great customer experiences
• Responsibly and effectively advocate for customers

• BA/BS in Graphic Design, Marketing, or other related field preferred
• Formal education in Interaction/UX Design or HCI, Graphic Design or equivalent experience required
• 5+ years of experience as a user experience designer, interaction designer, product designer (or similar role)
• eCommerce design experience
• Experience with a variety of design and prototyping tools such as Sketch, Figma, Photoshop, Axure, Framer, Invision, etc.
• Familiarity with A/B, multivariate and other quantitative testing techniques
• Experience with qualitative User Research techniques (e.g. usability studies, interviews, etc.)
• Successful track record working with business stakeholders as a design leader
• Experience creating production specs/assets, working directly with developers for implementation of designs
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present a rationale for design decisions to senior leaders
• A portfolio demonstrating experience creating elegant user-centered design solutions
• Experience driving mobile first design initiatives
• Ability to work in a diverse team
• Fluency in best practices for User Interface Design, Information Architecture, and Interaction Design; practical knowledge of User Centered Design processes and lifecycles preferred
• Strong desire and ability to push for innovative, forward-looking solutions preferred
• Familiarity with HTML, CSS, and Javascript preferred
• Demonstrated holistic and systems thinking approach to problem solving preferred
