EH&S Manager

Job purpose

 

The EH & S Manager role will be responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining the company Environmental Management System, and associated policies. This position will monitor and measure company performance and improvements as they apply to ISO 14001 guidelines, and be a pivotal contributor to ESG reporting and metrics. This role will report to the Director of EH & S.

Duties and responsibilities

 

  • Develop, implement, and oversee environmental policies and programs to ensure compliance with Federal, state, and local environmental laws, rules, regulations, and net positive strategies applicable to the Company's operations, products, and facilities.
  • Coordinate the environmental component of real estate transactions, including due diligence and post-merger and acquisition activities.
  • Drive chemical safety transparency, access to and utilization of SDSs, management of EPCRA, SPCC, solid waste, RCRA, USDOT hazardous materials transportation, and clean energy.
  • Develop and implement an environmentally best practice training program for front line employees as well as EHS field personnel.
  • Periodically inspect and audit Company operations and facilities to determine the level of environmental compliance and adherence to business ecosystem circularity and recognized best practices.
  • Investigate and respond to Federal, state, and local environmental complaints, investigations, inquiries, enforcement actions, and internal environmental incidents.
  • Manage vendors providing environmental and sustainability services to the Company.
  • Apply critical thinking, information gathering, communication skills, and judgment to identify and analyze routine and sometimes complex EHS challenges to generate practical evidence-informed solutions while accounting for legislation and industry standards.
  • Work closely with the Company's Legal and Operations functions regarding environmental matters.
  • Work without appreciable direction and with considerable latitude in determining objectives and approaches to assignments.
  • Develop relationships with senior management and EHS professionals to create/influence EHS-related strategy and act as a change agent to support improvement in EHS.
  • Understand the relationship between EHS and operations as well as the broader organizational requirements.
  • Liaises with industry leaders and EHS regulatory agencies, as necessary.
  • Manage activities to meet work/project timelines.
  • Use communication and engagement skills, including negotiation and conflict management, to initiate, promote and support change.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in related field required; Master's Degree in environmental science, continuing environmental education, and environmental certifications, all preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in environmental science/management is strongly preferred
  • Experience with ISO 14001 and other Occupational Health and Safety standards
  • Wholesale distribution or transportation experience is a plus
  • Ability to influence and network in a high matrix organization, creating partnerships at all levels
  • Requires mathematical skills, reasoning, and analytical approaches to solve problems
  • Proficient with 0ffice 365 applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and SharePoint)
  • Commitment to outstanding customer service
  • Strong organization, verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Valid driver's license and safe driving history
  • Ability to travel up to 30-40% of the time
  • Satisfactory background check
  • Position will be remote with travel required
