Director, E-Commerce Strategy and Business Operations

We are looking for a Director, E-commerce Strategy and Business Operations. In this role, you will be a key part of Beacon’s Digital Commerce organization and help us achieve our Ambition 2025 goal of 25% of all sales through e-commerce and digital ordering. This position oversees our business development and will be multi-faceted and at the center of driving growth and innovation in the e-commerce space. Beacon e-commerce currently generates over $1 billion in revenue, and we are looking to accelerate it.
This is a new role created to ensure that Beacon is putting focused attention on growing our user base and increasing current user’s wallet share for e-commerce. You will develop and implement strategies to drive awareness and trial, as well as help determine how to drive more stickiness with the end user (roofing contractors, waterproofing specialists, and home builders) You will help select and manage your team. You will work closely with many cross-functional teammates, including e-commerce product managers, IT developers, sales leaders, brand marketing, digital marketing, finance, and operations. You will hold a critical role with the interface to field operations and field sales. Your work will be a crucial part of unlocking Beacon’s growth in coming years, through finding and addressing customer pain-points, identifying strategic business opportunities and being part of the e-commerce and marketing leadership teams. The role will be focused on core KPIs like driving greater conversion, growing average ticket size, and gross margin enhancement, through core strategies like site management, promotions and field education.
This role requires you to be a strategic thinker who can not only change the way the company envisions e-commerce, but who can also work in the details of product management and execution. You will perform a wide range of duties around the planning, implementing, and analysis of core tactics and programs. The role will have high visibility in the organization and will report directly to the VP of Marketing.
Responsibilities
- Partner and collaborate with stakeholders, IT, and others in Digital Commerce to align on vision, definition of success and path forward to drive core growth strategies.
- Develop a significant understanding and reporting structure of web analytics to drive insights and decision-making.
- Implement ongoing strategic performance reporting for e-commerce (weekly, monthly, quarterly, annually).
- Drive insight development through focused market research, both with customers and Beacon field team members.
- Design specialized campaigns and programs to drive business results; both at a national and local/regional level as needed.
- Strategically utilize funding from vendor-partners to drive promotions that impact top-line growth.
- Work with field training to develop educational and training materials to build confidence and skill in field sales team.
- Create a strong relationship with divisional leaders to communicate status, as well as garner feedback and input.
- Help identify integration partners through industry connectivity and internal feedback.
- Collaborate with leadership, industry connectivity and field teams to help identify integration partners and opportunity.
- Help contribute to an engaging team culture that encourages transparency, learning and building for the future.
- Set and manage the business development budget.
- Develop executive and field communications to build excitement and momentum around e-commerce.
Qualifications
- This role would ideally be within driving distance of the Washington DC metro area, but we are open to a remote arrangement for the right candidate.
- 7+ years’ experience in a business development role, e-commerce, strategic marketing or similar.
- Proven ability to build strong relationships with leadership, stakeholders, team members and partners.
- Demonstrated success in managing foundational projects, from development to execution.
- B2B or B2C e-commerce experience; with emphasis on mobile.
- Strong project management skills with a track record of delivering projects that meet stated goals and objectives.
- Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to present at a high-level.
- Hands-on, can-do attitude with a bias for action; solution oriented.
- Candidate must be able to travel within North America (20% max per month).
- BS or higher degree in technology, science, business, or related field preferred.
