The Accounts Payable Assistant Manager is responsible for helping manage the operational and fiscal activities of the Accounts Payable Shared Services. The Accounts Payable Assistant Manager will work on developing plans, systems and procedures to improve quality and efficiency of the department. The assistant manager supervises some staff for the AP Manager in accordance with company policies and procedures. You will assists in hiring, training and coaching employees. This position also helps in the development and execution of departmental strategies and plans that achieve our revenue, operating profit, quality and lean objectives. You will assists in helping the company achieves its annual and long-range targets for cost, quality and delivery.

What You Will Be Working On:

  • Organize and direct workflow of 10+ personnel in a high volume, fast paced Accounts Payable department.
  • Ensures the organization's accounts payables are processed and paid according to established accounting principles and internal audit guidelines.
  • Assure that all eligible cash discounts are earned and realized.
  • Assure that all open receivables (credit memos) are converted or collected timely
  • Implement and monitor Accounts Payable control procedures.
  • Work with Vendors and Branch office personnel to resolve Accounts Payable issues while maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Work with internal and external auditors to complete required audits.
  • Engage and motivates staff by setting realistic expectations, coaches and communicates performance expectations regularly, offers recognition, and holds people accountable.
  • Staff the work team with the best available talent, appropriately matching individuals to defined roles and assuring that recruitment/selection initiatives complement company diversity objectives.
  • Responsible for researching information on Electronic Data Invoicing systems and making recommendations to Senior Management.
  • Responsible for planning, testing and implementing EDI system for processing invoices and payments.
  • Maintains Accounts Payable Aging reports, assuring timely payments within contracted terms. Notifying Senior Management of non-compliance issues and making recommendations for corrective procedures.


What You Will Need to Be Successful in This Role:  

  • Two (2) year college degree – Accounting/Finance preferred
  • Two - Four (2-4) years Accounts Payable Supervisory experience with a team of at least 8-10 employees
  • Computerized Accounting experience - AS400 environment preferred
  • Proficient in Excel and Word
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • EDI experience is beneficial.
  • Team orientated, driven individual with proven problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability of measurement conversion
